Sauk Rapids/Rice Hall of Fame

The Sauk Rapids/Rice High school Athletic hall of fame will induct it's first class on Oct. 6th with a program beginning at 10:00 am in the high school commons. Anyone interested in attending should contact the activities office at the high school for ticket info.

Also in Oct. 6th with be the first ever SRRHS Hall of Fame Golf Open taking place at 1:00 am at Oak Hill Golf Course. Registration info for that is also available at the activities office.

State Meet Wrap

The Storm wrapped an outstanding 2012 track and field season with 2 impressive performances on Day 2 of the State Track and Field Meet. The day began with Zack Haffner in the long jump, seeded 15th coming into the event, he jumped 21' 4.25" to land in 3rd place after the first flight. That was his best jump of the year. The second flight has several athletes fail to match their seed jumps and Zack was 6th heading into finals. On his first jump of finals he jumped 21' 8", his best ever and tied for 4th best in school history. That jumped placed in 4th and was not bested over the rest of the contest. True to form for the season, never having time to enjoy the moment, Zack had to quickly change shoes and jog over to his zone for the start of the 4 x 100 relay. The team of Matt Huberty, Zack Haffner, Brandon Landowski, and Jake Lynch was 9th seeded and was unable to match their record setting performance of the day before and had to settle for a time of 43.23. That was .03 seconds slower than their time in the prelims, but was good enough for 7th place. The day ended with the boys collecting their State Meet medals, plenty of smiles, and many, many great memories.

Day 1 State Meet

Records fell as the Storm performed very well at the State Track and Field Meet. The day began with the 4 x 200 relay of Zack Haffner, Matt Huberty, Brandon Landowski, and Jake Lynch ran a 1:30.59 improving on their seed time by .78 of a second. This broke the school record that stood since 2001 of 1:31.37 held by David Kelley, Jared Lazer, Sam Trushenski, and Shawn Roehl. The team finished 10th overall after being seeded 16th. They barely had time to think or react as they were running the 4 x 100 relay about 20 minutes later. The same team ran a time of 43.20, which was . 42 seconds better than their seed time. That broke the 2000 record of 43.38 held by Louis Winskowski, David Kelley, and Jared Lazer. The team finished 9th to move on to Saturday's finals. Jake Lynch also ran the 300 hurdles and finished 15th with a time of 40.61.

State Meet

The team has a bus for any interested track and field member who wants to go to the State meet on Friday. We will leave the high school at 6:30 am Friday and return some time mid after noon. Ticket prices for the meet are $7.00 for students and $10.00 for adults. You will need to pay for your own ticket.

On to State

The Storm will send 4 participants in 4 events to the State Meet on Friday and Saturday at Hamline University.
The relay team of Zack Haffner, Matt Huberty, Brandon Landowski, and Jake Lynch will run the 4 x 200 and 4 x 100 relays. Haffner will also compete in the long jump and Lynch will compete in the 300 hurdles. The running events will hold prelims on Friday with the top 9 going on to the finals on Saturday. The long jump will be held Saturday.

CLC Results

The Storm had another outstanding day at the CLC Meet on Thursday at SJU. The team posted 28 season best performances, a school record, 5 athletes earned All-Conference Honors and 7 earned Honorable-Mention All-Conference. Athletes earn All-Conference by finishing in the top 3 in individual events and top 2 relays. Honorable-Mention is earned by placing 4-6 in individual events and 3-4 in relays. The boys finished 3rd, that would be their best finish in the CLC Meet. The girls finished 9th. Next up is the Section 8AA Meet, day one is Wednesday, May 30th at Sauk Rapids, with day 2 in Detroit Lakes on Saturday, June 2nd.

True Team

The Storm performed well on a beautiful day at the Section 8AAA True Team Meet. The team recorded over 30 season best performances as they show that they are training well and getting better. The teams scores placed the boys 8th and the girls 9th overall. The top performances of the day included Sam Sunstrom running 5:17.85 in the 1600 meters, placing her second best in school history. Matt Huberty, Zachary Haffner, Brandon Landowski, and Jake Lynch had the winning time in the 4 x 100 relay at 43.79 which is 4th best in school history. Ali Syme also had a great day with personal bests in the shot and discus.

Mega Meet

Another Mega meet has come and gone. First a HUGE THANK YOU to all of you who helped us out to make the meet the success that it is and for helping us continue to try to run the best darn track and field meet around. It's not easy to run a track meet, so it's awesome to have so many people willing to help us out. Thanks again.

As for the results, it was another good day for the Storm as we racked up about 35 personal best performances. Sam Sunstrom broke her own school record in the 3200 meters, running to a second place finish in a time 11:24.99. Jake Lynch took over 2nd place on the school's 300 meter list with a time of 39.98, good for a second place finish. Here are the top 8 finishers for the team:

Sunstrom Sets Record

Sam Sunstrom set the school record in the 3200 meters at the Heart of the Lakes Invite at Annandale with a time of 11:32.70. The record was held by Carmen Meyer at 11:34.61 set in 1999. Jake Lynch also had a great day with a winning time of 41.91 in the 300 hurdles which is the 10th best in school history. Jake also ran 16.71 in the 110 hurdles to place second and his time is the 15th best in school history. Zach Haffner won the 200 in a time of 23.29, 11th best in school history. The boys finished 2nd and the girls 6th in the 9 team meet.

Tri City United Meet

What a difference a day makes. After surviving the Sartell monsoon, the Storm traveled to Montgomery on Saturday for the Tri City United Invite. The boys finished 5th in the 9 team meet and the girls came in 7th. The team recorded the following top finishes:

Sartell Meet

It was a dark and Stormy night Friday as we went to Sartell for the Friendship meet. We had some good results before we decided to call it a day. That is the first time I've ever left a meet early, but they stopped the meet shortly after we left.

Meets this weekend

We go to Sartell on Friday for those not competing on Saturday. Meet time is 4:15 for field events and 4:30 running.

Saturday we travel to Montgomery, bus leaves at 7:30 am. Field events start at 11:00 am running at 11:45. Just guessing that we should be back between 6:00 and 7:00 pm. Track is located on the north side of Montgomery off of highway 21/13.

Battle for Benton County

The Foley Falcons edged the Storm 176-172 in the Battle for Benton County, a dual track meet held April 3rd at the SRR track. The dual meet scoring scored the top 2 form each team in individual events and each schools top relay. The Storm won the event last season, and now Foley has evened the score.

CLC Indoor

It was another great day for the Storm at the CLC Indoor today as the team set 5 new indoor school records and posted 29 new entries on the all time indoor top performance list. Sam Sunstrom started the record breaking with a winning time of 11:43.49 in the 3200. Her time is also the 3rd best ever in school history. Jake Lynch was next with a winning time of 9.22 in the 60 meter hurdles.  Matt Huberty followed by setting a new record in the 60 meters with a time of 7.30. Zach Haffner than tied the indoor record in the long jump with a winning jump of 21' 3"which also moved him up to #6 on the all time list. The record setting ended with the winning 4 x 100 meter relay team of Haffner, Huberty, Brandon Landowski, and Lynch running a time of 45.26. The boys team ended up 4th and the girls 8th in the team totals.

Next up is the battle for Benton County Tuesday at the Storm's home track. Start time is 4:15 field events and 4:30 running. Thursday the 9th and 10th grade tracksters will head to Big Lake for the Big Lake 9th and 10th grade meet.

No practice on Friday, we will practice next Monday 4-9, at 3:30. 

SJU Meet

It was a great day at SJU as we got to compete outside and get some experience and some quality work. Results are posted, here are some highlights: Zack Haffner long jumped 21', Sam Sunstrom ran the 1600 in 5:31.0, Matt Huberty triple jumped 40' 9.5" and Brandon Landowski triple jumped 39' 9". It was a good day and the kids were pretty excited.

Next up Saturday at SCSU for the CLC Indoor meet, start time is 9:30, bus leaves the high school at 7:45, we should be back by 3:00.

Week 3 begins

Hey, thanks to all of you at the parent meeting, I think the night went well.

This week we have a meet at SJU on Tuesday. The meet starts at 1:30, kids get out to eat lunch A with the bus leaving at 11:30. We should be back by 5:00. The meet will be outside weather permitting.

Wednesday is picture day, make sure you have your uniform and picture envelope if you are ordering pictures. Picture envelopes are in the west gym in the middle school. If you still need a uniform you can pick that up at practice Monday at the middle school.

Saturday is the CLC Indoor at SCSU. Start time is 9:30, bus will leave the high school at 7:45. We should be done by 2:30 and home by 3:00.

We're off and running

First week of practice in the books and things went well. Can't beat the weather. I think the team numbers about 95 athletes. Some important things coming up to be aware of:

Potluck, parent meeting, activity night on Friday, March 23rd starting at 6:00 pm in the high school commons.

Picture day has been rescheduled to Wednesday, March 28th.

First meet at SJU on March 27th, start time 1:30 pm.

CLC Indoor meet at SCSU. Meet time changed to 9:30 am.

Practice starts Monday

We begin practice Monday at the middle school. If you need a ride to practice, the bus leaves door 7 at 3:25. Please make sure you have all your forms in before practice on Monday.

Reminder to get your clothing order done by Monday otherwise you'll have to wait for the middle school order in April.

clothing order due March 5th- Equipment move

Early clothing orders are due March 5th. Second order due March 12th. This early date will ensure that we have our clothing before the CLC Indoor.

Thursday, March 8th we will be moving equipment into the west gym at the middle school after school. We need everyone who can help to be there.

2 weeks to go

Practice starts in 2 weeks, so of course we will have a snow storm this week. Captain's practice begins on 2-27 after school. Get your clothing order in and make sure all forms and fees are turned in before the first day of practice. If you know of anyone who missed the meeting last week- send them to me for the info they need.

Order your track clothing now at Rambow.com, store code is stormtrack. You order online and pay with a credit card. You can also print out an order form and mail it in. Early order is due March 5th so we can have our stuff by the CLC Indoor.
