Track work underway

The resurfacing of the track is in progress. The new surface promises to be nice and fast. It has me already looking forward to spring. Thanks to all who were part of the process in making that happen.

 We have also been working on some other improvements to our track and field complex. A new slab was laid for another discus circle. We had the triple jump runway replaced- it was heaving up and uneven. There was some concrete repair work done to one of the jump pits. A practice runway was made for the pole vault, which will mean less switching of the pits for practice. Cable was run from the finish line to the press box for our timing system which means no more running cable over the track or hoping the wireless system works. A huge thanks to Pete, Rod, Aaron, Scott McCabe and anyone else who helped with those projects.

Academic Awards

The Boys and Girls Storm Track and Field teams both received the Gold Award for team academic performance for the 2011 season. The award is sponsored by McDonald's and the Minnesota High School Coaches Association.  Great job team!

Section 8AA Meet

The Storm wrapped up it's season with the section 8AA Meet last week. Despite the team not advancing  anyone to the state meet, the Storm had 36 personal best efforts in the meet. Highlights include:
 Zach Haffner placed 3rd in the long jump with a 21' 1.5" effort, 7th best in school history

CLC results

The Storm boys and girls both placed 9th in the Central Lakes Conference Meet held May 24th in Sartell. Chelsey Bethke and Chole Timm received All-Conference honors in the pole vault. Chelsey cleared 9' 6", her best by 1 foot to take 2nd place. Her vault was the 4th best in school history.
The following earned Honorable Mention All-Conference:

May 19th meet cancelled

We decided to cancel the meet scheduled for May 19th for a couple of reasons. First we have a lot of kids who could use the rest instead of competing. Second, we have a group of kids who have confirmation that night. Given how many kids would not be competing that day we decided that it would be best not to have the meet and get our kids ready for the CLC meet.

Section 8AAA True Team

The team had another good day at the section 8AAA True Team meet Thursday. We had 40 personal best performances, so the kids keep improving. I'm really proud of the effort of our kids. I really like the true team meet because it makes every effort count, we aren't just scoring the top finishers, we are scoring first to last. When you go out and improve on your season best performance, I can't ask for more then that. I know we got home a lot later then I thought, but some things are beyond my control. Mega Meet wrap

Wow, what a great day for the Mega Meet. It was a huge success thanks to all the people who did such a great job helping out with the meet. The team had 44 season best performances on the day, including 5 new entries on our top performance list and one new school record. Those would be:

Holdingford Meet results

The boys came in first and the girls were second in the Chet Blascziek invite in Holdingford Friday. It was classic Holdingford weather with wind and rain, but the team still responded with many great results.
Mega Meet takes center stage this week as we get ready for the 19th annual meet to be held on May 7th beginning at 9:30 am. Check out the results from Friday in the results link.

Storm Second in home meet

The Storm used 34 personal best performances on a cold and windy day to finish second in a 5 team meet. See the results link for full results.
Next week the Storm hits the road for a meet in Holdingford on Friday 4-29, and the rescheduled Montgomery/Lonsdale meet on 4-30. We will split the squad with most kids seeing action in one meet or the other.

ML Meet Postponed

The meet scheduled for Saturday, April 16th at Montgomery-Lonsdale has been postponed until April 30th.

Storm Take Battle For Benton County

Using 63 season best performances, the Storm toppled Foley for the win in the first annual Battle for Benton County dual meet. The kids performed well to score 211 points to Foley's 157. The scoring format used the top 2 results from each team and combined girls and boys scores. The winner received a traveling trophy, which we plan on keeping as long as we can. Great job everyone.

This Week

The Battle For Benton County takes place Tuesday at Foley. Bragging rights are at stake as we tangle with the Falcons in a dual meet. Meet time is 4:15. Students will be released at 2:30 with the bus leaving at 2:45.
We travel to Montgomery-Lonsdale Saturday for an invite, bus will leave at 6:30 am.
